Finding a church when you are new to Canada

By the Canadian Churches team · Checked

If you have just moved to Canada, the quickest way to a church of your own tradition is usually that church’s own finder. Most Canadian denominations keep one. Below is each one we could find on the denomination’s own website, then how to look across all of them at once, including churches with services in your language.

Looking across every church at once

A denomination’s finder shows only its own congregations. Canadian Churches lists churches of every Christian denomination in one place, by province, city and denomination, so you can see what is near your new home before you choose.

Services in your language

Canadian Churches has city pages for churches with services in Korean, Chinese, Filipino, Tamil, South Asian languages, Spanish, Portuguese, Ukrainian, Polish, Arabic, Amharic and Tigrinya, Farsi and other languages. A city gets a page for a language once at least two churches there hold services in it, across every denomination, and churches can add the languages they worship in themselves.

Before your first visit

  • Check the service time on the church’s own website or by phone: times change in summer and at Christmas and Easter.
  • Ask which service is in your language, if the church has more than one.
  • Ask whether there is a newcomers’ welcome, children’s program or English class, if you need one.
  • If the church has a Christmas Eve or Easter service you want to attend, see our Christmas services by city.
