A MassTimes alternative for Canada: Canadian Churches vs MassTimes

By the Canadian Churches team · Checked

MassTimes (masstimes.org) is a Catholic Mass-times directory run by the Mass Times Trust, a US charity that the Diocese of Lansing in Michigan operates. Its About page says it lists 121,000 churches in 201 countries and territories, kept current by dioceses, parishes and volunteers, and that it lists only Catholic churches confirmed by a diocese or religious order.

Canadian Churches lists churches of every Christian denomination in Canada, Catholic parishes included, with service times only from the churches themselves. Here is how the two compare, and when MassTimes is the better choice.

MassTimes facts are from its own About page, linked, as it stood on October 29, 2026. Our side is what this site does today.

When MassTimes is the better choice

  • You want a Catholic Mass today, sorted by start time: that is MassTimes’ default view.
  • You are travelling outside Canada. MassTimes covers 201 countries and territories; we cover Canada only.
  • You want Confession times, or to filter Masses by rite, language or time of day in one search.
  • You want a phone app.

When Canadian Churches fits better

  • You are looking beyond Catholic parishes: Orthodox, Anglican, United, Lutheran, evangelical and other churches are listed in the same city pages.
  • You want service times that came from the church itself, with the date they were checked.
  • You are looking for a Christmas Eve or Christmas Day service near you.
  • You run a church in Canada and want a free listing you can edit yourself.

Check Mass times with the parish

MassTimes itself says churches routinely change their Mass times and that it is prudent to double-check the parish’s website. We agree, and the parish is the source either way. Every Catholic diocese and eparchy in Canada has its own website with its parishes: the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops keeps the directory of dioceses, eparchies and ordinariates.

Listing your parish

Parishes can be on both. On Canadian Churches a parish claims its listing with an email at its own website’s domain, then adds Sunday and weekday Mass times, languages and Christmas services itself. Nothing is copied into a listing without the date and the page it came from.
